Awair stood for Air Wagon International (unless it meant Abdurrahman Wahid, the name of its founder and future president of Indonesia). It started operations in 2000 but had to suspend them in 2002. It associated with Air Asia in 2004, and changed its name to Indonesia AirAsia in 2005.
