Malayan Airways Limited was created in 1937 and based in Singapore but its inaugural flight took place only in 1947. It changed its name to Malaysian Airways in 1963, after the creation of the Federation of Malaysia.
Singapore broke up from the Federation of Malaysia in 1965, and the 2 governments took joint ownership of the airline that became MSA (Malaysia-Singapore Airlines).
