 Malaysia–Singapore Airlines started as Malayan Airways Limited in 1946. MSA came into being in 1966 when Singapore broke away from the Malaysian federation. It became a joint ownership of the airline by the governments of Malaysia and Singapore. It ceased operations in 1972 when both governments decided to set up their own national airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines.
