United Arab Airlines was formed by the merger of Misrair and Syrian Airways when Egypt and Syria formed the United Arab Republic in 1958. In 1961 Syria seceded from the union and created Syrian Arab Airways, UAA remained the national carrier of Egypt. Its name was changed to Egyptair in 1971.
